John is one of the new types of biomedical entrepreneurs that are emerging in Ireland, a medical doctor and a successful entrepreneur. John was a Mentor for HealthXL a programme specifically designed for digital health start-ups run by experienced entrepreneurs and backed by leading global health investors such as GSK, IBM and Silicon Valley Bank. John was also recently selected as one of the individuals who are transforming healthcare with technology in Ireland and was deemed 1 of the top 50 influencers in Digital Health. He was listed on the 2013 HealthXL Influencer Index decided by an international panel of judges including independent investors from Silicon Valley.

John is a true Medical Entrepreneur, with a unique passion for business and medicine. As well as being a founder and CEO of a successful international company he has great enthusiasm for entrepreneurship. As someone who heads up a successful business accelerator program I often refer him companies, particularly in the Medtech sector, for his invaluable advice on how to grow their businesses.

I asked John to give the key note talk for the Irish Times Innovation Cities Road Show hosted by the Whitaker institute and NUI Galway. John’s key note address was very well received by the group touching on his personal experiences in the area of start-up with life science and med tech ventures. He has high credibility with a scientific audience, as well being passionate about the subjects of entrepreneurship and innovation. The event was hugely successful and received an excellent write up in the Irish Times by Michael McAleer, Editor of the Innovation Magazine.

The Treacy Consulting team has been working in the strategy world for over 15 years and Dr. John McKeon is our go-to-person for the technical evaluation of biomedical projects and other innovations related to healthcare. As a serial entrepreneur, John is able to combine his deep knowledge of medical and life science issues with his unique experience in business applications and sales and marketing strategies. Most importantly, John understands that ‘research’ is important and valuable, but ‘commercialisation’ and a ‘path to profit’ is critical.

As Adjunct Professor, Entrepreneurship, at the TCD School of Business and Trinity Research and Innovation, we have asked John to speak a number of times at our entrepreneurship meetings organised with the business school, and with our sister University UCD, including a recent Marie Curie lecture series. John delivers a great story about his own success with Allergy Standards. As an entrepreneur, John has a superior ability to deliver his inspiring messages, with passion, confidence and integrity. I always like to listen to his presentations.

Having been impressed by John’s excellent contribution at a prior event, I invited him to be to be a speaker at the Asia Matters organized 2nd Asia Pacific Ireland Business Forum in Croke Park. Notable speakers at the event included An Taoiseach Enda Kenny T.D., Dick Spring, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Frank Ryan,Chief Executive of Enterprise Ireland. John was a panellist at a key sectoral business workshops on Life Sciences and Consumer Products. He has a significant knowledge of doing business in the life sciences sector in the Asia region, particularly Korea, and we were delighted he was able to share his valuable insights with the group in an intelligent and clear manner.

John is a natural entrepreneur. Highly-intelligent, very enthusiastic and driven, but uniquely sensitive to the ethics of the field in which he works. A great motivator who genuinely leads the team by example.

John is a key member of the entrepreneurial community here at the Trinity Technology & Enterprise Campus. He is an active contributor to our enterprise network and is a key driver in our efforts to develop it. He has been a guest key note speaker at a number of events and has also been a judge on a number of our business competitions and we greatly value his input to our events as he is a great motivational speaker. Through his network John has been instrumental in bringing some key speakers to the University including Brain Tracy, Frank Maguire and John DeMartini.
